It’s been a long wait, but we finally have news of Final Fantasy 7 Remake Part 2. It’s titled Final Fantasy VII: Rebirth and is coming next year.

Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth Announced, Trailer Shown

Final Fantasy 7: Rebirth was just announced at the Final Fantasy VII 25th Anniversary celebration. It looks to be remaking the second third of the original game, and you can see Cid’s airship in the trailer. It’s also trying to do some new stuff though clearly, adding on from the brand new content that Final Fantasy VII Remake had. It’ll be interesting to see exactly what the game changes, and how it goes about it, but we’ll have to wait just a little bit. The game is due for release in Winter 2023 currently, exclusively on PS5. That’s MUCH quicker than the five year gap between announcement and release for the original Remake, and due for release in the same year as a mainline Final Fantasy game, Final Fantasy XVI.

What changed in the Remake?

The Remake made it so that several beloved original characters didn’t die, changed how the ending of the game went and above all else (SPOILERS) made it so that Zach Fair, the best friend of Cloud Strife, doesn’t die when he should. He’s supposed to be dead by the time Final Fantasy 7 rolls around, but the ending of the game shows him walking off into the distance with Cloud in his arms. You also fight Sephiroth MUCH earlier than you do in the original game, after defeating the Arbiters of Fate that have been trying to make the story go on the path that the original story did.
